Best Places to Launch for paddling the Rainbow River

Hi! Today we are going to answer the question so many people are asking which is, where's the best place to launch a kayak on the Rainbow River?! After being a local kayak livery for over 25 years we have the best info for you to make sure you have an ideal day on our beautiful Rainbow Spring.

These are the best options for you to launch your own boat or rent one!

    • Rainbow River Canoe and Kayak shuttle service: bring your boat or rent ours and park at our facility at the end of the spring, we load your equipment and you on our bus and trailer, then we shuttle you up river to KP Hole County park. Paddle the entire six miles of crystal clear water and have all day until 6pm to peacefully drift back to your car at our shop where we have bathrooms, showers, foot washes, changing stalls, and more! No second bus needed at the end to take you anywhere as we're right on the water. No reservations required, but recommended. Bring your own boat or rent one of our canoes, kayaks, or paddle boards.
    • Launch at KP Hole County Park: For a fee you can launch your own kayak at KP Hole County park, about 1.5 miles down from the head spring. Paddle out and paddle back to their launch spot. Special note: They do hit capacity very early and have minimal rentals available. There is no reservation system.
    • Launch at Rainbow Springs State Park: The state park launch is at the actual head spring. You can paddle out and paddle back from their location for a fee. It is a beautiful park with a gift shop, swimming area, and more! Special note: You must have a reservation to go to Rainbow Springs State Park with your own boat or for rentals. When launching your own boat there is a long walk with it to get to the launch spot.
    • Launch at Blue Run Park: Blue Run Park is a small county park in Dunnellon with access to the Rainbow River at no charge near Swampy's Bar and Grill. This is only for private boats and there is limited parking.

We hope to see you soon and as always, it “otter” be a great day on the Rainbow River!
